SHORT
BIOGRAPHY
1-2 PARAGRAPHS

Short bios are concise, biographical paragraphs that professionals use to introduce themselves. You can often find short bios on social media profiles, personal websites and company team directories. Short bios are typically used to provide a summary of an individual's accomplishments, an overview of their career history and a description of their professional goals.

Your short bio is often the first (and perhaps only) thing a potential employer, client or contact will read before deciding to contact you, so it is important that your bio be accurate, informative and memorable. It’s a good idea to include:

  • Your name

  • Your current job title

  • Your company name or personal brand statement

  • Your hometown

  • Your alma mater

  • Your personal and professional goals

  • A relevant achievement or accomplishment

  • Your hobbies

  • Your skills and areas of expertise

Short bios are brief by definition so it is important to determine which of these topics is most important to make the best impression on your readers.

BIOGRAPHY
SUMMARY
1-2 PAGES

A biography, or simply bio, is a detailed description of a person's life. It involves more than just the basic facts like education, work, relationships, and death; it portrays a person's experience of these life events. Unlike a profile or curriculum vitae (résumé), a biography presents a subject's life story, highlighting various aspects of their life, including intimate details of experience, and may include an analysis of the subject's personality.

Biographical works are usually non-fiction, but fiction can also be used to portray a person's life. One in-depth form of biographical coverage is called legacy writing. Works in diverse media, from literature to film, form the genre known as biography.

EXTENDED (LITERARY)
BIOGRAPHY
3-7 PAGES

An extended or literary biography is the biographical exploration of the lives of writers and artists. Biographies about artists and writers are sometimes some of the most complicated forms of biography. Not only does the author of the biography have to write about the subject of the biography but also must incorporate discussion of the individual's literary works into the biography itself. Literary biographers must balance the weight of commentary on the individual works against the biographical content to create a coherent narrative. This balance is affected by the degree of biographical elements in an author's literary works. The close relationship between writers and their work relies on ideas that connect human psychology and literature and can be examined through psychoanalytic theory.

GHOST
WRITING

Ghostwriters are writers for hire who are paid but receive none of the credit for the work produced.

There are generally two parties involve in this professional relationship:

  • The “author,” who hires the freelance writer to produce content for an agreed upon fee, takes the credit for all the original work produced.

  • The “ghost,” the freelance writer who is generally paid in advance of completing the job, gets the money as a “work for hire” job and assumes none of the credit for their ghostwriting work.

SPEECH
WRITING

Speech writing is the art of conveying a message to the audience through words. Speech writing isn't much different than essay writing.  But if you follow the basic guidelines and proper speech format, you can easily write a great speech that will leave the audience with something good to think about.
